Bad Kissingen (vor dem 24. April 1883 Kissingen) ist eine Große Kreisstadt des gleichnamigen Landkreises im bayerischen Regierungsbezirk Unterfranken und liegt im Tal der Fränkischen Saale am südlichen Rand der Vorrhön. Der Kurort ist bayerisches Staatsbad, ältester Gradierstandort Europas und hat den ältesten Golfplatz Bayerns (1911). Bad Kissingen besitzt das wohl größte Ensemble historischer Kurbauten, die um den Kurgarten, insbesondere unter Ludwig I., im bayerischen Klassizismus errichtet wurden. Bad Kissingen ist eine von 11 traditionsreichen europäischen Kurstädten, die als Great Spas of Europe (englisch für: Bedeutende Kurorte Europas) einen Eintrag als UNESCO-Welterbe anstreben. Als Ergebnis jährlicher Emnid-Umfragen ist Bad Kissingen der bekannteste Kurort Deutschlands und erhielt im Sommer 2012 die Auszeichnung Rosenstadt.
